By popular consensus, large outdoor flat-screen display panels are supposed to be supplanting and superseding poster billboards: video content is more effective and eye-catching for public advertisements and promotions. Certainly there are a lot of holographic “billboards” in Bladerunner 2049 (and Bladerunner for that matter), but otherwise where are all these hi-tech screens? In London there are the feeble ones on the Tube escalators and a few disappointing ones at Piccadilly Circus. Any other flat-screen displays that one sees about the city are usually puny and often much less eye-catching than an old school poster site.
